Mark went fishing early this morning to see what he could catch but nothing today. The fisherman he fishes with apparently lost a very big one so he was very disappointed as he sells them for quite a bit of money.
Poor kitty was sad to see us leave today
Why pitch a tent when you can have it on the roof of your car!
We packed up and got on the road knowing we had a few kms to cover today (i think we did over 600km!). We drove all through the rest of the Transkei and headed towards civilisation.
The rondavals in this area all had corrugated iron roofs instead of the normal thatch and they were a hexagon shape rather that perfectly round. Some of the schools had kids playgrounds with swings and slides, but the kids were not playing on it - they were playing on a wall by the school instead. maybe they had had the playground a while and the novelty had worn off.
Once we passed Dututwa we started to see proper farms with animals in paddocks instead of running riot all over the place! Bit more organisation! it was sad to leave the Transkei though. We are already planning trips back in June and in December. We absolutely loved it. Beautiful beaches, all still very natural. It's not built up at all. We enjoy roughing it. Mark loved Coffee Bay and can't wait to go back.
We stopped at River Kai to stretch our legs and have some lunch. It is very beautiful in this area. Huge valleys with the river kai running through it.
After that we got into "Frontier Country". And that is exactly what it is! It is a lot like the Desert Road in NZ - barren wasteland in some areas - only much much wider. Driving through here you realise, Africa is a big place!
There were proper sheep and cattle ranches - it hasn't rained here either in a while so the animals were looking a bit worse for wear. I hope it rains there soon!
On the way when we were 70km from PE we noticed the temperature was 36.7 degrees! And that was at 4pm! Crazy hot weather up there.
There were a lot of road works on the way so we should got to Jeffrey's Bay a lot sooner than we did. But we just carried on driving and eventually we made it! We are staying in a backpackers here, and after roughing it in the Transkei this is like a 5 star luxury for us :)
Now Mark is having a nap. He is exhausted after driving so far. I didn't take many photos on the way. Photos didn't do the scenery any justice at all. tomorrow we will look around jeffery's bay - there are Quicksilver and Billabong factory shops so im keen to get new jandals :)
