Mboyti

We expected to get to Mboyti by noon but ended up arriving at 10am due to improved roads. There is a prison by Lusikisiki and the prisoners have been busy making paved roads.

Ladies picking Tea on the tea plantation.

As soon as we arrived we put up out tent and got organised. It cost R85 (South African Rand) (NZ$11) per person per night so we booked in for 2 nights to start off.

Once we were set up we went for a walk to the beach and walked a bit along the coast towards Waterfall Bluff. Beautiful sea but rough. There were many boulders and rocks.

There is electricity at the camp and a deep freeze to put our meat in. We were worried about it defrosting so that was good to find out. We paid a guy R40 (NZ$5) for a wheelbarrow load of firewood to braai (bbq) and we paid R10 (NZ$1.30) for a bag of ice. I also had a mint icecream on the way back from the beach :)

2 small children came past our camp so I gave them some sweets. They were so excited and happy, big smiles. There is no 'don't take lollies from strangers' mentality here! They were so cute. They always hold out 2 hands to receive the sweets. Usually they are by the road when you drive to Mboyti but they were all in school today so we only saw kids after school had finished.

So excited to be in nature!

We started our fire at 4pm and when the wood burned out we started to braai. We made little braai packets of meat and put them in zip lock bags to freeze. We have enough for a week and tonight we had short ribs, pork rashers and a sausage with a mushroom kebab and fried tomato.

What a difference a wood fire makes! Amazing, smokey goodness!
We kept the fire going into the night and once it got sark the stars came out. The milky way was so clear, as was Orion's Belt and of course the Southern Cross. We went for a walk and lay down in the grass looking at the stars. We didn't see any satellites or shooting stars but it was so incredible to look.

We also saw glow worms just hanging out in the grass.
