Noztzie and Knysna Heads

Today we got up early and did some laundry. We couldn’t believe how quiet and dark it was last night. No lights, no noise. We both slept so well!
While we waited for the laundry we met Tia and Dane’s landlord. We chatted with him for a while and told him how much we love his farm!

After that we set off for the day. First stop was Noztzie.

As we drove down to Noztzie, Mark noticed all the massive houses there now that weren’t there before. We walked down all the stairs to the beach and stopped to look at the castles on the beach. I’m not sure what the point of the castles is but they look like B&Bs or hotels, not someone’s private house. One person built a castle and all the others copied and now there are a bunch of castles there.

(**I have since heard that maybe these castles are in fact used as hotels)

We then walked along the rocks to find a nice spot. We found a big piece of driftwood so made that our base. Mark braved the water first then made me go for a swim. It was freezing! Like swimming in NZ. After that mark jumped off the rocks and we had lunch and headed up back to the car.

Brrrrr!

We then went to check out Knysna Heads. Mark had spent some time here as a kid and was amazed at how built up the town is now, so many houses and roads that weren’t there before. We went over to Leisure Isle to see the boat ramp and then made our way up to the Heads. It was very beautiful and we hung out there for a while enjoying the view.

What a terrible view! I would hate to live here ;)

After that Mark wanted a milkshake so we went to find the café he knew as a kid. It is now a proper restaurant and when we went in everything smelled so good. Instead of a milkshake we ended up having strawberry daiquiris and a plate of calamari! We even spotted famous springbok rugby player and coach Nick Mallet who was also having lunch there. We then drove around Knysna and went to see Mark’s aunt’s house where he spent some holidays.

The Garden Route!

Back at Tia’s house we showed her all our pics and told her about our day. We went for a drink at a near by backpackers called “Wild Spirit”. Anyone traveling around SA must come and stay as this place is wonderful. We sat outside and had a drink by the fire and met lots of foreigners traveling around SA. There were even girls traveling alone which goes to show, as long as you are careful, as you would be anywhere you go, you can still come and have a great time!

We made the best homemade pizzas tonight – something we will be making again at home that’s for sure!
